In data analysis 7, we discover quantification!

Tips:

These files were run using a Kratos instrument and as such require you to load the kratos library before you begin analysis!

Tasks:

  1. Determine the O to Ce ratio in CeO2
  2. Determine the Mo:Te retio in MoTe
  3. Determine the molecular formula of sulfanilamide
  4. Determine the molecular formula of VO2

  1. If we take the high resolution section and click create regions you’ll notice a very low Ce content. Look closely at the Ce default region and expand it to cover the whole area. Compare with the high resolution spectra and you should now get good agreement. You’ll find the ratio about 3:1, likely due to adsorbed CO2/water. The O 1s region indicates a lattice CeO2 species and a large amount of hydroxyls/physorbed species which will complicate the deconvolution.
  2. We find this almost exactly 1:1 from the high resolution regions. Note: Don’t mind the extra doublet in the Mo 3d region – this is embedded argon atoms from the sputter cleaning process!!
  3. If we look at the HR regions, we can find a base formula of approx: O1N1C3.5S0.5 or in other words C7O2N2S – which would suggest an additional carbon – potentially due to adventitious adsorption.
  4. From HR analysis here we find O1V0.4 – indicating a slightly higher oxygen content than expected. This can again be attributed to adsorbates.
