In this video, Mark Isaacs introduces peak constraints and how to fit doublet peaks in CasaXPS. If you need a refresher course on why doublet peaks appear in XPS spectra, why not visit our section on the fundamentals of doublet peaks and spin-orbit splitting?
To remind yourself about why doublet appear, why not go back for a refresher in fundamentals 3, or check out our guru page.

Practice time!
- Don’t forget to calibrate the spectra before analysis
- Try fitting every spectra with a single species to start (single oxidation state – make sure you still fit doublets as doublets)
- Pt 4f might require a second attempt (you may wish to repeat this after watching the next video, on asymmetric peak shapes)
